At the national conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Sept 4-7, each region will have elections to fill openings on the Board of Directors. The elections for regional representatives to the Board will happen on Friday during lunch. A box lunch will be provided for regional meetings. Each Region will elect one regional representative and one alternate.
If you think you or someone in your region want to run for a SABE position, YOU MUST BRING A LETTER OF REFERENCE to your regional meeting in Indianapolis. This letter may be typed, written by hand and just include only one sentence saying you have been an active member of a local or statewide self-advocacy organization for at least two (2) years and you will continue that participation. The letter must be signed by an officer or advisor of your local or state self-advocacy group.
SABE board of directors has developed an election committee. The committee has discussed many ways to help the regional meeting run more smoothly. The committee has decided each region will have the following supplies at their meeting:
• 5 copies of SABE bylaws
• Flip chart
• Microphone
• A script to guide the leader through the meeting
• Personal contact form to be filled out by the newly elected SABE representatives and alternates
The SABE representative leading the regional meeting will decide on the voting procedure for your region. For example, some states might raise their hands to vote and some might use ballots. The leader of the meeting will also be responsible for getting support needed. The leader of the meeting will be responsible for getting the contact information to one of the three national advisors.
